A Day Trip to The City

Its been six weeks since I visited Charlotte. So I decided it was time for a road trip. So I rang up my homegirl to see if she was down to ride.......she didn't come through for me. But thats cool, I hit up my boy Hughes who I haven't gotten up with in a minute and he was down for the cause. So I left campus, stopped through A&T, picked up Hughes, and off to Charlotte we went. We went down to the South End first and hit up Blacksheep. It was cool to see how busy the area was with the kids grinding ledges next to the the new light rail across the street, bobby walking his dog outside Niche, sneakerheads and skaters piling into Blacksheep, looking down the street and seeing the line from Chicken Coop pouring out the door.....it all set the ambience of how much I'd missed Charlotte. Hughes and I headed into Niche and the first person I saw was Adam. He was telling me about him and the other guys being out at Magic in Las Vegas and how skeptical he was of the event compared to other streetwear shows he'd been to in Vegas. I let em know abt the pictures I saw from Mike's blog of their trip out there. I ended up copping some air structures and Hughes and I headed out. We headed over to my old high school where they were having this step show they were trying to charge 10 bucks to get into. Me and Hughes said FUCK THAT! and we opted to find another way in. So we drove around to the back of the school and tried to open the back door. It was locked. There were parent volunteers everywhere patrolling the halls. Hughes and I laid low until suddenly something grabbed their attention and they all walked into the gynasium and there was one lone 7-year-old wandering around at the end of the hallway. We banged on the door and coaxed the little kid (who obviously had ADD) into lettin' us in. So we got in and met up with our boys Jeff, Mike, Brandon, and Rob. We caught some of the show, and said what up to a couple ppl but decided to keep it moving. So they headed back to Greensboro and Hughes and I headed over to our boy Jordan's house. Why the hell did he live in the middle of nowhere??!!! And why did his bedroom look like an expensive disaster!!!! This fool had a Mac Powerbook chillin on his desk next to all kinds of junk, a PS3 chillin next to pile of dirty clothes, and about 11 shoe boxes scattered amongst the debri in his room. It felt like I ran into a Katrina victim that just recieved their FEMA check (oops...too soon?). As soon as we got to his house, we caught a glimpse of what a character his mother was. We chilled over there for a little while and then left to head back to my house. I finally got up with my parents, washed some clothes, and did some grocery shopping in our pantry and got ready to head back to durham. All-in-all, it was a good trip. Saw a lot of people, whiled out with Hughes, hung out in Greensboro for a lil bit, hung out in Charlotte for a lil bit and copped some sneakers. Sounds like a good day to me.

  1. You hit that expensive disaster thing on the head man. Looks like they threw a million dollars in the monkey pin at the zoo.
